IRC Channel
Heya,
Diesel and I suggested this quite some time ago, but the thread was about something else, so I will do a new one.
Is anyone interested in D3Scene having an IRC channel? I personally prefer IRC over the shoutbox because:
1. The shoutbox can be pretty slow sometimes.
2. The shoutbox is only IRC for lulz.
3. For me, Firefox seems to exceed 400MB of RAM usage when I have one or two tabs of D3scene open after a time, that way it would ease communication while playing.
Please note that it is not enough if just 2 people do this. We need the majority of active members to have an opinion on it. So please, no matter what rank you are or what reputation you have, tell us what you think.
Furthermore, I propose Rizon as IRC Network we go for, it provides free Bouncers for nicknames that are registered for more than 7 days. Later on, we might even be able to get our own IRC server, it's not much effort, as long as Hendrik got root access to our host.
Gudness, Jolinar
Oh and yeah, if you want to know anything about this, PM me or get on irc.rizon.net channels #jolinar or #d3scene. (Yes, I created it for now.)
Edit: I didn't even notice we had an IRC board, lols, but yeah, all ideas of this pretty much died, so I think this is still the thread for it. Move it to the IRC section if you think it belongs there~

I'm not a fan of IRC but if we get enough members to support this, I'm in.
Opinion? Hmm If we can get there something like the ISpy over here it would be cool :>

Could some more people maybe participate? Even if you're not interested, please tell me so I have an overview.

i can see the benefits but do you think members will put in the effort to open the irc channel everytime they visit d3scene?

I surely would not enter IRC to chat with members, sorry.
The reason for this is that I have never liker IRC, and also, then non-elder users can access the "chatbox". They need something to stretch for, like a carrot
Also, using an external program for something that is also is integrated is nei-nei.

That was sort of my main point of this idea, because leechers certainly won't put effort into starting up IRC for just omgl33th4xx, while potential new members who want to stay would rather come on IRC.

I think if you came out with this it would be like a spot for anyone who is not elder user or above and elder users and above would stay in the normal chatbox so it would be like there is a chatbox for the lower ranks and higher i dont think it would work

I do not support this at all, why fix something that is not broken?
The chatbox works great, and i do not see why we need an IRC server too.
As stated multiple times above: It will only be a place where leechers go to whine about their problems.
Although the chatbox may be laggy sometimes, 99% of the members here have something called MSN or AIM or some other sort of chatting programs.
Heres what it sais right above the input field:
Ask your questions in the forums. The ChatBox is for small talk. Use Enter to send a message.
I mean, if you really wanna talk with someone, add them on MSN, or join the d3scene group that i know someone have made.

Seriously! He did!

Thanks for your constructive reply.
It indeed works great, but IMHO D3Scene has gone DEAD. There are like 10 members frequently active, the rest is leechers.
And I think that leechers would rather go into the group in the messenger they are in anyways, than start an external client. But: one can't tell what one hasn't tried.
About the thing that D3Scene is dead, it requires only little effort of everyone to spread word and believe me, if you can communicate in real time with the senior members as a group, a site is much more attractive than if you have to post stuff and hope someone reps you.
But again, thankies for your replies, I loev you♥
