FoXsters guide to CS1.6

If you are new to Counter-Strike and need help, there are quite alot of other tutorials on the internet.

This is for people who have already played the game, but just really isnt that good at it.

FOR CS1.6 ONLY.

1. Tactics.

First of all, if you like just running right into the fights and shoot like Rambo, I wont recommend this game for you.

When playing on a public server, all you have to do is stay focused on the mission. If you are a terrorist at a 'de_' style map, follow the bomb-carrier with some other team members to protect him. If the bomb-carrier just runs into the enemy all alone you probably will fail.

You may think you want score and money instead of jerking around like an idiot just becouse of the bomb carrier.

Wrong.

This is exactly how you should do to win money and having a good score.
But really, if you only care about your score and you want to be l33t, you could just stop reading this tutorial and go play at fun-map servers that runs aim_ or fy_ style maps.

Now where were I?
Oh yes, the tactics.

If you do as i say and follow the bomb-carrier with some other team members to protect him, you have a much bigger chance of winning.
If the bomb-carrier gets killed, you or your team members can just pick up the bomb and continue advancing towards the Bomb Target.

Also, in the beginning of the round, keep your eyes open, the bomb-carrier might drop the bomb to someone else for him to carry the bomb. This might just happen in the middle of the round too.

If you are at a position far away from a bomb target and the bomb gets planted, use the radar to find some team members and advance towards the Bomb Target.

When the bomb is planted, protect the bomb at all costs!
The whole CT team will attack the bomb spot just as the bomb is planted.

Tough, you might want to save your own ass when the bomb is about to explode.

Playing as a CT can be really hard sometimes. If you are playing at a 'de_' style map, remember to guard/camp the bomb target(s) in the beginning of the round. If the bomb is planted elsewhere, use team tactics and storm the bomb-site, or use sneaking tactics (walking is really useful!). Remember to buy a Defuse Kit, so that you can defuse the bomb faster. But what if you just die, then you have no use for your Defuse Kit, thats just a waste of money!

Keep in mind: Your teammates can pick up your Defuse Kit. You can too.
Alot of teammates will buy Defuse Kits and if they die, you can pick up one if you dont already have one.

.Grenades.

You may think that the HE grenades are worthless, they never actually cause any damage! My advice here is to use HE grenades only when you know the enemy has very little HP, or buy a grenade in the start of the first round.

The grenade doesnt cause much damage becouse your enemies got Kevlar Vest.

What about the Flash Bang?
This is quite useful.
Toss it into door-openings and windows, use it to prevent the enemy attacks, etc!

The Smoke Grenade then?
When i first played CS i wondered why there is a Smoke Grenade included.
I didnt find it useful at all.

But it really is, actually.
There are several critical crossing lines in which there is a risk the enemy kills you in all the maps. Toss a Smoke Grenade here, and the enemy will find it alot harder both seeing you, and shooting you.

Now, the Hostage Situation maps.

Being a Terrorist here is easier than you think. Its all very simple;

You and your teammates just have to guard/camp the hostages. Grenades are really useful on these kind of maps.

You can hide behind a hostage if you want, if the enemy shoots you he shoots the hostage aswell! This means the enemy loose money and if all the hostages are killed they cant rescue them, now can they? Still, you dont win if the hostages are killed. So dont kill them every round like an idiot. You will loose money for shooting them, also.

If you see a Counter-Terrorist escorting the hostages, just open fire, no matter you hit the hostages or not. You will loose if they take the hostages to the Safe Zone.

A smart thing to do is using grenades to blind the enemy, and preventing them from attacking you and rescue the hostages. So, camp the hostages, use grenades every now and then, keep your eyes open at infiltration areas, and stay low. Tough, you might want to move your butt if the CT's got the hostages.

Being a CT in a Hostage Situation map.. is hard. Either storm the enemy or stay low. If there is a big shootout and you are alone, there is several ways to infiltrate the enemy and take the hostages with you. USE WALK-AND-CROUCH-TACTICS IN THIS SITUATION. Flash Bang grenades are also a good thing to use. Once you have the hostages following you, avoid combat, and move trough safe ways towards the Safe Zone.

If you see a teammate trying to escort the hostages, help him out!

Now, the VIP Escort maps.

Yes, there is only one map in the game of this kind.
Tough, In older versions of CS there were more.

You can download a few maps of this kind also.

If you are the VIP, move with your teammates trough safe zones and avoid battle at any cost. If you meet up with enemies, let your teammates take care of them. Once near the Escorting Zone, your teammates has to cover you, and using grenades is also a good thing to do.

Remember you cannot buy anything if you are the VIP.

If you are a Counter-Terrorist, protect the VIP at all costs! You and your teammates have to move towards the Escorting Zone with the VIP.

Being a Terrorist at these kind of maps is easier, tough. Guard the Escorting Zone, use flash and smoke grenades, or buy a Sniper Rifle to protect your teammates as the Counter-Terrorists attack. If you see the VIP, go after him! Using stealth is a good thing to do here, sneak up behind the VIP and kill him. You will be rewarded for doing this.

2. The Radar.

Using the Radar is very important. If youre playing as a Terrorist, you can see where the bomb is located (or where the bomb-carrier is)!

The blue dots is your teammates.

If youre playing as a Counter-Terrorist, you can see where the hostages are located!

The Radar is necessary if you wonder where your teammates are, and focusing on the mission.

3. Personal Stuff.

Before playing the game, remember to setup your Keyboard Control Keys.
Remember, you play the game the way you want, so change everything you want until you feel comfortable.

And if you didnt know, alot of people play like crouching with Spacebar, jumping with right mouse button, defusing bomb with the G key, dropping weapons with the middle mouse button, etc.

Also, you need to pick a weapon that you really like, which you can kill with.
Ill talk about weapons later, but remember that everyone has a gun that they especially like.

4. Practice.

Remember to practice alot. My advice is playing on servers which run aim_ or fy_ maps. CS isnt just about the map objectives.. - Before you play on public servers you need to learn how to aim good also.

My second advice is Bots. Computer-controlled players. Bots are very good for practicing aiming with, and increasing weapon skills.

You can download bots by searching the Internet.

5. Weapon Tactics.

All the weapons in Counter-Strike are unique, for example the shotguns are useful only in very close combat.

If you are going to buy a Sniper Rifle, you better have a good pistol for medium-close combat too.

Snipers are good only for taking out enemies and covering your teammates.

Assault Rifles are the most used weapons in the game.
Thats probably becouse they are good at any range - Long range, Medium Range, Close Combat. They are pretty cheap too.

Sub Machine Guns (SMG's) are similiar to rifles, but with pistol ammunition, and a faster fire rate.

Pistols are mainly backup weapons. The Desert Eagle is very good at medium-close range, and it is really powerful.

The M249 Para MachineGun is really good at long range.
Use bursts with it, and open fire when the crosshair is back to normal size.
Tough, the M249 has 100 bullets, very useful in close combat and you dont need to reload. However, if you cant handle it you will look like an idiot.
Plus, it costs almost $6000. My advice is: Use it only if you are freakin rich, and if you can handle it.

Remember, if you just empty your magazine at once (spraying), you probably wont damage the enemy. Use short bursts.

Some people say you should never spray at all, but this is wrong.
If you can handle the gun, you can spray at medium-close range and kill the enemy. This requires aiming skills.

6. Cash.

If you have very little cash, i suggest buying nothing at all, you already begin with a gun. Or you can buy a Desert Eagle or MP5. Remember to focus on your mission. You will earn money if your team wins, and when you complete the objectives.

Remember, if you earned quite alot money, dont get so happy and buy everything you can see in the buy menu.
A rifle or Desert Eagle and some kevlar is enough.
Maybe a flash/smoke grenade too.

You save ALOT of money by just buying cheap things/buying nothing.

And you dont need to buy full ammunition. For a rifle just buy one or two magazines. Alot of people will probably die anyway, you can pick up other peoples weapons.

And remember to be careful, you DONT want to die if you just bought an AWP, a Deagle and 2 grenades. Once again, dont just rush into the enemy.

Working with your team is the key to victory.

7. Notes

You may think some of the things you just read sounds weird. For example,
camping. People say its lame and nubbish, but it isnt. Dont listen to them.

Camping and stealth is a part of the game, and one of the ways to victory!

Maybe you think "bots are for noobs.." too. Bots are very good training with. Even proes practice against bots sometimes. (Yes thats true.)
