| I personally prefer the brighter graphics that have been shown so far in Diablo 3. It is likely that some areas will still be dark and dingy; Blizzard are more realistic in their games than to make every area very colourful and illuminated. Games such as Dungeon Siege and Dungeon Siege 2 have shown that colourful graphics in this sort of game can work well, as long as they are used in moderation, with a fair amount of darker graphics being used also. As for it being a lot brighter than Diablo 2 – this is in some ways a good thing. It would be silly simply to have a game that was almost an exact clone of Diablo 2. By a balanced variation of graphics (brighter and darker), Blizzard will hopefully be able to improve upon the often monotonous graphics of Diablo 2 and create more contrast. If all of the areas are dark, then you do not get the same feeling of evil and darkness when moving into another area. If however, on the other hand, some areas are light, and some areas are dark, then you can clearly feel a distinct contrast and a change in mood between areas. Variety is the spice of life. |
