[Tut] Deprotection

Have a look at our store

Programs Required

  • XDep
  • MPQMaster
  • Rmpqex
  • Deprotection Template ( Not a program )

You can find them in the download section at [Download] Tools

Unprotection Steps

First we need to get the map you want to deprotect, Place it in the same folder as XDep is in.
Rename the map to mymap.

Next we want to open Rmpqex so we can get a better listfile.
A listfile helps XDep deprotect the map and recover all the files, Also helps with MPQMaster.

  1. Click Browse then go to your mymap file.
  2. Now click open and double check your list files.
  3. Now do an Auto Search a few times.
  4. Extract the listfile and overwrite your existing one now ( Only do that if you added that listfile at the start in the listfiles section )
  5. Now go back to the XDep folder and start the XDep.exe and sit back and watch it do its job.
If you get errors or anything simply post a screenie of them and i'll try help you with them.

Now your maps done, try opening the new file thats appeared "deprotected"
While WE opens up if get an error that includes the word group within it.
  1. Go and open MPQMaster
  2. Go to File>Open
  3. Find your deprotected map and open that.
  4. Now click add file and find the file "war3map.w3i" in the deprotection template folder.
Done

Try opening the map again and if you get more errors simply screenie it and post it

Have fun deprotecting maps !

but you forgot to mention a small detail which is:

Before running XDep.exe, you should go to XDep configuration file and look for "inmapfile"(without quotes) and change the name to in our case "mymap" (without qoutes) .

i can't find the Deprotection Template or the Rmpqex on the download sections on any website... is Rmpqex same as MPQ recover?

not really useful .. the map becomes unplayable after removing protection.. most stuff gets deleted but still it's good to know you can crack people's maps and spit on them

I tried to deprotect map from 3.3mb and i got 2.8mb map. I can open it in WE but there are some things that are missing i guess, cause i dont have loading screen and staff and when i try to start game on half of loading war3 crashes... Can you help me?

Thats because you need a better listfile in the XDep folder.

"Warning: 17 files have unresolved names even after scanning. These files will be lost and deprotected map may be incomplete or even unusable.

Patching war3map.w3i...
Fatal Error: Cannot open war3map.w3i"


Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

You need to open up the original map with MPQ Master and use the deprotection template file war3map.w3i and replace it in the map.

Then deprotect it

Would you be able to unprotect Download Warcraft 3 Map - hoihoi8s Custom Hero Survival 1.13 - Hero Arena survival map for Warcraft 3 - Softpedia for me?
I've tried(unsuccessfully) several times to unprotect it, but it seems I'm doing something wrong :/ I can't for the life of me figure it out.
Me and my friend want to add some new features, new levels, and new equipment to it.

Thanks! Is it normal that all of it's Triggers are gone, as well as some buildings?

Edit: Well, not ALL triggers. You can still change your camera( -c) and other commands, but nothing spawns on the levels and you can't choose a hero.

Well theres a difference...
Deprotection just means you can open the map and take models etc.
Rare occasions you can edit the map and have it work 100% when you play it again.

To actually edit it 100% i'd have to "restore" the map
And restoring a map can take hours/days/weeks/months/years

i tried to deprotect the following map, because i think it has some potential and it's alot of fun to play, so why not improve it.
