Need an easy way to turn off a company-issued tablet’s camera? Odyssey Software’s updated enterprise-class mobile device management tools will allow you to do just that.

Allowing administrators to remotely disable cameras on employees' managed devices is one of the useful tools Odyssey Software announced today with its enhanced support for Android 4.0 operating systems through the company¹s mobile device management (MDM) software, Athena.

Beyond support for Android's unified "Ice Cream Sandwich" OS, other Athena improvements include enhanced password controls with more granular settings for device password requirements.

“The popularity of Android devices is being carried into the enterprise and securing corporate data on these devices is a critical challenge for IT administrators,” said Odyssey Software CEO Mark Gentile in a release. “Athena now provides expanded capabilities for managing and securing Android 4.0. The unique modular architecture of Athena, coupled with the flexibility of the Odyssey Software organization, has allowed for the rapid adoption and incorporation of these new platform enhancements.”

Odyssey's Athena is a device management application that can stand on its own or complement higher level third-party tools such as Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007. Athena is intended as a toolset to manage remote clients. It can be used for such tasks as deploying software updates, monitoring device health, collecting and tracking information on the device's software and hardware, and diagnosing and fixing problems.

Odyssey says it offers the only integrated MDM software for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager. The Athena program extends the native MDM functions of the Configuration Manager platform to enable better management of Android devices, as well as iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Windows Embedded CE devices.

The enhanced Android features Athena provides are available for partner integration now, with general availability for Configuration Manager customers expected soon.
