Look at the stats, we're slowing loosing site traffic. Guess why? Because you guys aren't bloody copy pasting (with credentials) or more importantly, making your own hacks.

The reason I post this is another plea to post more, to make this a true e-family, and not something you check up on once a day, but somewhere you come that is active, friendly, and full of interesting stuff.

Let's take today. I saw a messed up video of this guy throwing a dog off of a bridge, he got a 1 year sentence and the dog is all right. Anyone else seen this video?

Also animal cruelty in Japan, but I'm not saying anything due to younger members on /d3/.

You see? just these small things make a persons day (well you know ,seeing a new thread, not necessarily that example..)

We need to gain more traffic by making more hacks and going on other sites, copy pasting guides and giving creds to person and site name so we can get more traffic.

Yes, that is primarily what most people do, and I will not deny. But if so, please actually do it if you are going to be helpful to /d3/.

Thank you all, sorry about my inactivity, grounded and all that.

Hello,

old topic: http://www.d3scene.com/forum/rules-a...-2-server.html

I did the same thing on 2 (1 polish and 1 internation) forums already and it succeed. It would be very well if it passed here as well.

D3Scene is v. big forum (approx 600 users -- 500 guests :P -- online at one time).

The idea is to make a TeamSpeak server just to chat, it doesn't have to be connected to the forum it can be just free converstaions about anything, games/politycs/badonkadonks.

However the only thing I would like to everyone to respect is using english language AS I know that especially germans(no offence of course) like to talk in their native language.

I don't know why the previous idea failed but I think we can, no we should, no we must try once again.

To do not lengthen the waiting time the server is up from now :)

If D3Scene do fancy this idea, you can forward domain to it :)
IP: 91.121.204.145:8888
pass: d3scene

The 400 Project (Game Developer Rules)

*The 400 Project
(http://www.theinspiracy.com/Current%20Rules%20Master%20List.htm)

The 400 Project

What is The 400 Project?

It’s an attempt to write up 400 rules of game design that can be used by designers to make better games. Rules are being submitted by designers from all over, but most of the existing rules were written by Hal Barwood and Noah Falstein.

Why 400?

That’s just a rough number, proposed by Hal Barwood in his original lecture that inspired the project. Since the rules themselves are loosely defined, there are certainly an infinite number that can be derived, but beyond some point the distinctions (and the rules themselves) would become trivial. 400 is a good stake in the ground.

How many are there now?

As of this writing (early 2003) only a couple of dozen rules have been written up, but the number is steadily growing, and many of these first rules are important ones.

How can I submit rules?

See The 400 Format for a description of the format and submission instructions.

How did this project originate?

Quite briefly, it grew out of an initial lecture that Hal Barwood gave at the Game Developer’s Conference in 2001. Then Noah Falstein proposed the concept of a formal project to collect the rules and write them up, and began writing a column in Game Developer magazine in the March 2002 issue. A more detailed history will be forthcoming – but don’t hold your breath!

Who are Hal Barwood and Noah Falstein?

Hal Barwood is a Project Leader at LucasArts Entertainment. Noah Falstein is President of The Inspiracy, where he works as a freelance game designer and producer. His resume is available there.

Where do the rules come from?

Initially, the thought was that they’d come from experienced game designers around the world. In practice, people have been quite slow to submit rules, and many of those submitted have either been ambiguously formed or incomplete, so I (Falstein) have taken on the brunt of the task of writing them.

Why rules? Isn’t game design a free-form activity?

In some senses it is quite free-form, but that doesn’t negate the usefulness of rules. These rules are intended to be guidelines for creating good games, not a straight-jacket. A good example from the more mature field of writing might include well-known rules taught in basic English classes, like “Show, don’t tell” or “Write what you know.” Even though there is a lot of variety in the approaches people take to game design, everyone who does it professionally quickly comes to learn certain truisms about the process, and The 400 Project takes those truisms and turns them into rules that can be followed.

Is this the same as Christopher Alexander’s concept of a pattern language?

No, although there are similarities. Alexander’s work grew out of architecture, and is, in Hal’s words “A welcomed allied analysis”. But it lacks the imperative – the 400 rules are stated in terms of instructions to follow, rather than observations of existing patterns. It also lacks the trumping information that is important to understanding how these rules interact.

Where can I find a list of the rules?

For now, a temporary list is available in The 400 So Far, but this website will eventually have a more complete and cross-referenced list.

Where can I find new rules?

New ones will be published in the monthly “Better By Design” column in Game Developer magazine, and this website will record them too.

Why is the list of rules growing so slowly?

It’s a hard job to articulate rules clearly and consistently. Currently, this project is primarily an unpaid venture by Noah Falstein, so it’s going to be a slow process for now.

How does one use The 400 to make better games?

There are many ways. Remember they are merely a tool, not a game design generating machine, and tools are limited only by the ingenuity of the tool users. One method is to apply the rules when you get stuck in a game design, looking for insights on how to resolve your problem. Another is to go through the rules and consider your design in the light of each rule in turn, looking for ways to use them to modify your design. Or you might take an existing game and consider how it might be changed in light of the rules, morphing it into a new game in the process.

I joined d3 a few years ago as a gamer looking for a forum to meet some other gamers and to better my gaming by reading walk through's , hero builds and hacks of course.

Hendricus the maker of d3 was really helpful and as i became a active user of d3 i was in return helpful to hend. Making him some banners with what skill i had on photoshop. LOL.

Any after about a year of being a daily user of this page, i had to leave my internet life for a REAL job in the australian army. So i said my goodbye's and had to leave d3 for what i thought would be a long time.

6 months through my training i had not touched a keyboard. Being a serious gamer i was starting to hate the feeling of never going back online. Anyway..... I got posted to my new unit and i have not gotten internet yet but I use my friends. Thats how come im posting this message haha.

To wrap this post up my question to ALL d3 users is if you could have one thing in your life that would never change what would it be?

-post your answers below-

thanks for your time.

ok so there is this one song that i have been trying to get basically my whole life just because i love it and also that I've been able to get every other song i like except for this one

i bought an iphone about 4-5 weeks ago and I downloaded shazam and everything but I havent been given the opportunity to tag this song because I havent' heard the official recording anywhere (shazam only tags official recordings and not singing/humming/songs that have been remade but arent like the official 100% lol)

I do not know:
The song title
the artist (a girl does sing it)
album
lyrics - I think the lyrics are non-english and whenever i heard it in the past, it hasnt been very easy to hear and i couldnt really pick up on the lyrics and they sound non-english but they could be english! im just not sure

So, I have done what I could and composed a MIDI version of the song (in piano) to demonstrate what the verse and chorus mostly sound like (it kinda repeats after that with minor variations) and have inserted the link to download the file and it is in .wav format. I have tested playing it with windows media player and itunes and both seem to work fine so hopefully this will work on anyone's computer.

What I would like is if everybody could listen to this song on windows media player or itunes (both work) and try to give me any information about it (if you understand some lyrics just put that in your response).

I would love to get any information about it seeing as I don't have anywhere to start from.
