Bill Gates, the owner of Microsoft, planned to develop WINDOWS, in the year 1983 for its MS-DOS Operating System. On 20th November 1985, the first version of windows was released but windows 1.0 were not much popular, as it did not have much efficient functionality features. Initially it was called as "Interface Manager". In 1987, Windows 2.0 was introduced which included additional icons, overlapping windows etc. Windows/386 was introduced in late 1987, which provided the facility to simultaneously run multiple DOS applications in its extended memory.
In May 1990, Windows 3.0 was introduced with address memory of about 640k and efficient user interface. With added facilities windows 3.1 was released in April 1992. Microsoft released the first combined version of windows and networking package in October 1992 and it was called Windows for Workgroups 3.1. In 1993, the enhanced version named Windows for Workgroups 3.11 was out. Windows NT 3.1 was developed to support network servers and software development machines. OLE 2.0 was embedded in Windows NT 3.5 with improved performance and minimal memory requirements in September 1994. Then came Windows NT 4.0 with Object oriented concepts. In August 1995, Windows 95, which was capable of providing advanced file systems and multitasking mechanisms, was released. Later in 1996, Windows CE and Windows CE 1.0 were introduced.
With additional features in the existing system, Windows CE 2.0 was released in the year 1998. Then came Windows CE 3.0, which is highly flexible and reliable with Embedded Visual Tools and Platform Builder 3.0, on June 15, 2000. In June 1998, Windows 98 was released with web browsing features. To manage Internet, intranet and extranet applications Windows 2000 was released on Feb 17, 2000. The Millennium Edition, Windows ME was out in September 2000. On October 25th, Windows XP was released. At present Windows Vista has been out, which is extra ordinary. Check out our store |
