PhoneBloks - Phone that is made up of lego

    G'day from downunder,

    Update:

Configurable Phonebloks? Iím amazed Motorola are apparently picking this one up.

Back in September we highlighted a concept design for taking a modular approach to mobile phone technology. Think swapping in different processors or displays from different vendors, or choosing to substitute different chunks of functionality Ė sacrifice the space for a camera module in order to gain NFC and Wi-Fi support, maybe.

Good in theory, I said (slightly patronisingly, but I envisaged lots of problems with the engineering details). But what do I know? The open source initiative is dubbed Project Ara reports theVerge.com.

Maybe Motorola think the concept is so good a suitable implementation will have to be foundÖ Itís a way, basically, to address the increasingly fast rate of obsolescence affecting mobile phones. A modular approach to components would minimise the impact of sub-system changes, thatís the basic thrust.

I already participate. I really like the idea and feel this could be much of a success!
The overall design in the video looks good as well

We can customize everything we own - Why not the hardware of our mobile phones just yet?

Its awesome ive seen this a few weeks ago, the thing is the major cellphone companies will do everything they can to block this so they can keep selling iphones etc etc. But it really is a great idea i support it.

I can see why the cellphone companies would not like the idea of a phone like this but by the looks of the response of the internet community, I would be investing in this idea because it's going to be the next iPhone.

Imagine taking something made of Legos, say a car, and dropping it from roughly 4 feet. Now imagine that each one of those little Lego bricks flying in every direction costs $300 each. Just saying.
