10..Exit __________________________________________________ ____________ Intro - Ok, well this section needs some improvement, so I figured I would start by writing a beginners guide to the game. I of course do not expect you to read this whole thing, it would take about 5hrs (all links included), if you are having trouble with one section however, this guide is for you.
Step #1, browse a beginners guide The first thing you do (I recommend) is read this Guild Wars Beginner's Guide v4.2 - Providence53 - hosted by Neoseeker
I would paste it here, but because of copyright, I must make you go to it. Step #2, learn the basics
Sub-Steps:
1 - Simple Maneuvers
2 - Armor
3 - Levels
4 - Terminology
1] Because you have most likely read the game manual (if not, I suggest you do for a more in-depth version of this), I will only brush up on some things... First thing is first, you need to move! You move by using the arrow keys, or wasd letters (like in WoW). Like in WoW also the q and e keys move you diagonal, this is a way to dodge enemy arrows in battle.
The ctrl button is a big part of guild wars, it does a lot. First off, to ping your skills, you simply hit ctrl and click your skill hotbar, you can do the same thing with your weapon/shield. Another use of control is to Ctrl + your exp. bar, this tells you what % of the way you are to the next level. To target an enemy, you hit ctrl + double click on enemy. You can also Ctrl + Click on Mana/Health to tell people if you are running low, or click on the hexes that have been cast on you to alert a healer.
When you start GW, you will be level 1. You will have 100 health also, health increases +20 every level you get. (up to level 20, max level). Every time you level (like in WoW also) you will get attribute points to spend on the attribute (example: swordsmanship) of your choice.
2]With armor, you have a "Armor Level" this level goes up as you get higher level armor, what class you are decides where it stops. With each armor level, the % of damage you take also decreases, and it is like this: AL Damage %
--------------
0 283%
5 260%
20 200%
30 168%
40 141%
50 119%
60 100%
70 84%
75 77%
80 71%
85 64%
100 50%
110 42% 120 35%
Ok, now that we have established that you need armor... so lets get started! In Guild Wars, you have 5 peices of armor, they are: Helmet, Chest, Gloves, Legs, Boots. Each peace of armor takes a logical amount of damage, and they are as follows: Head - takes 12.5% [Exception: If enemy is higher off ground then you, or a special
arch in bow, wich is auto-crit.]
Chest - takes 37.5% [Exception: Chest takes all spell damage]
Gloves - takes 12.5%
Legs - takes 25%
Boots - takes 12.5% So, needless to say, you need to get max armor, whatever class you make! 3]In Guild Wars, you level from 1 to 20, I know, you are thinking "wow, thats gotta be
easy!" well, you thought right, it is. After your first level 20, you will be able to do that
same campain over in as little as a day. (don't worry, your first is always the longest).
Now, to show you how much exp. you will need to get each level: Level.........EXP
Level 01 - 0
Level 02 - 2000
Level 03 - 4600
Level 04 - 7800
Level 05 - 11600
Level 06 - 16000
Level 07 - 21000
Level 08 - 27600
Level 09 - 32800
Level 10 - 39600
Level 11 - 47000
Level 12 - 55000
Level 13 - 63600
Level 14 - 72800
Level 15 - 82600
Level 16 - 93000
Level 17 -104000
Level 18 -115600
Level 19 -127800
Level 20 -140600 Also with levels, you will get attribute points to spend on attributes (as stated before),
you get 5 attribute points up to level 11, at which you get 10, then starting at level 16,
you get 15 per level. You will always get 1 Skill Point per level, there are quests with
rewards of attribute points. The max amount of attribute points you can spend per spec.
is 12 (after that, you can use runes to get them up)
4]If you have played an online game before, just skip this section, but I will put everything
I think you may need to know on this guide.
OBO - Or Best Offer
WTS - Want To Sell
WTB - Want To Buy
LFP - Looking For Party
LFG - Looking For Group Aggro - Aggravation range. The smaller circle on your compass. Most enemies
which get in this circle will attack you. FoW - Fissure of Woe, a instance for level 20 players.
ToA - Temple of the ages. When a country has the favor of the gods, the
underworld and fissure of woe can be accessed from here.
UW - Underworld, accessed from the Grenth Statue in the Temple of the Ages when
your country has the favor of the gods. Nuker - Someone who can deal a large amount of damage, often to large groups.
Usually an Elementalist, but can be a Mesmer or Necromancer or well. PUG - Pick up group. Runner - Someone who runs you/your group through difficult terrain.
[Writers Block, will add more terms later] Step #3, Choose your expansion! The Guild Wars 1 Expansions are as follows (I add a description )
Prophecies - This is the orrigional Guild wars game. GuildWars.com: Products: Guild Wars
Factions - The 2nd in the series, and many peoples favorite , with this expansion, you
may choose Ritualist or Assassin classes (as well as core ones). GuildWars.com: Products: Factions
NightFall - The 3rd game, this adds the classes Paragon and Dervish, and is the best
game to get from level 1-10 on. GuildWars.com: Products: Nightfall
Eye of the North - The 4th and final addition to the GW1 series, this gives you a chance
to access many new features. I highly reccomend this for getting from level 11-20. (when
combined with NightFall). GuildWars.com: Products: Eye of the North So, to sum this all up, I would recommend getting 2-3 parts of the game, EotN & Facti-
ons for sure, and NightFall if you can spare the money. Step #4, Classes! You've got your game, you have your knowledge, now time to choose a class! For your first class, I would recommend what you are most comfortable with, and what is most computable with your personality. To tell, read below:
Warrior - Aggressive
Monk - Helpful
Assassin - Subtle, Manipulative
Archer - Observant, like to stay directly out of trouble, but still be part of it.
Mesmer - Like to stop people from hurting you, rather then hurt them
Necromancer - Prefer Caster in all games, but prefer the darker arts.
Elementalist - Prefer Caster in games, but prefer basic casting.
If I have left something of, I don't recommend you start with that class. Classes guide
For a full overview of classes, go here: Profession - GuildWiki, a Guild Wars wiki.
[color=Red]Step #5, Quests! Ok, before we get started, I would like to suggest that you only do main story-line
quests. There are lots of quests out there, and you will get 20 way before you finish all
of them... So don't worry yourself with the non-main quests!
Because this guide can't be like 4 pages long, obviously I can't cover every quest in
every expansion, so I am going bring others work to you:
For Prophices Quests, look http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Quests_(Prophecies) there.
For Factions Quests, look http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Quests_(Factions) there.
For Nightfall Quests, look http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Quests_(Nightfall) there. For Eye of the North Quests, look http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Quests_(Eye_of_the_North) there. Step #5, Choosing your secondary class! Ok, so you have your quest help ready, you know lots about the game mechanics, and
now, you have to decide on a secondary class?!?!?!
Well, don't worry too much, because you can change it back if you have Factions in Senji's Corner by talking to Senji. Initially changing to each new secondary profession
costs 500 gold. Changing back to a secondary profession that has been already unlocked
is free.
[font=Arial]If this is your first character, unless it is a monk, I recommend that you choose monk, for
the ability to self heal. If you picked monk, then just see the link below.
For a FAQ and Guide on evey single class combination, read http://www.supercheats.com/pc/walkthroughs/guildwars-walkthrough22.txt there. Of course I don't expect you to look through all of them, just read through the ones you
may like. Step #6, Your first 20!
[This article is going to be written in v0.7]
Step #7, Your Builds. Alright, now that your level 20 (woohoo! ) you are going to need a build. The fist thing you are going to want to think about is, what do I want to do? Do you want to farm? PvP? PvE with good results?
Once you decide what you want do do with your character, pick out what build you want from my other post, located here: http://www.d3scene.com/forum/guild-wars/16027-large-collection-guild-wars-builds.html, If there is not a build to suit you, you can always search other forums, or ask your guildies to upload one to you.
Your build is what you are, the better it is, the better you are, besides armor, this is what makes your character, so don't stick with a crappy one!
