Rep Power: 6 | | IRC Bot & Tut for it Explanation of a Bot:
A bot is like your personal IRC slave, they are programmed to do things on IRC, and when you enter a command, it responds. The bot provided has many commands, all of which can be viewed (as explained in tut) by typing !help in a wisper (known as Query on IRC).
Tut on how to work it: Once you download the bot, find the zip file and open it. Extract all the files from the zip file into a directory on your computer. C:\yb45 is a good place. That was easy, but wait… mirc.exe is missing! Due to mIRC license, we need to install this seperatly. =( mIRC 6.21 doesn’t place nice with YB 4.5, so download 6.2 if you need to. Find the mIRC installer and run it. If you’re running Windows XP with service pack 2, you may see this message. It’s ok, just cick “Run”. If you don’t see this message, that’s ok too. You want to install it in the exact same location that you unzipped the bot files. In my case, this is C:\yb45. There are no previous mIRC files to backup, so uncheck that box. We do want to keep existing mIRC settings and create shortcuts (I’ll show you how to use them a little later) so check both thoes boxes and click “Next”. Once the install is done, check the box to Launch mIRC and click Finish. This will run the bot once you close the installer. Once the bot loads, you’ll see this thing asking you to register mIRC. It’s not required to register, but if you don’t you’ll see this message every time you load the bot. Now let’s move on... the bot setup wizard should pop up when you run the program. Once you finish with the wizard, the bot will restart.
First, enter the name you want your bot to use. Here you can decide if you want the bot to automatically check for updates. Then click next. Here we enter the server and port you want your bot to connect to. In my case, irc.chat-addict.net on port 7000. Then click “Next” to continue. Now we chose how the help files are to be sent to you from the bot. If the server you’re connected to forces your bot to disconnect with the message “Excess Flood”, you shouldn’t use the “Query” option. Instead, chose “Text File” to have the bot DCC you a copy of the commands in a text file or chose “Web Address” to have the bot send you a link to the command list on the YBbot website. You can also change the command identifier here. This tells the bot what to look for when you send commands (ie. !kick would look for “!”). Click “Next” to continue. Final step in the setup wizard. Here you can enable and/or change the greeting messages sent to users who join a channel the bot is in. There are different notices for regular users and bot operators. Click “Finish” when you’re done. The bot will now restart. After the program restarts, a readme window should have popped up. If it didn’t, press the F1 key. In the readme window, there is a command that starts with !owner and has a four digit number. This number is randomly generated and cannot be guessed. You will need this number to set yourself as owner of the bot. Now, switch to the status window (the one under the ReadMe window). You’ll see that it set the primary server to the one you specified in the wizard. Press F12 and the bot will connect to your server Once connected, tell the bot to join the channel you’re in (ie. #MyChannel). /join #MyChannel Now that the bot is connected and in my channel, you can minimize the Bot mIRC. Nothing else in the setup needs to be done in the bot window. From your IRC client, type the !owner command in the channel the bot is in. In my case, this is !owner 1221. The bot will send you a private message asking you to set a password. Remember your password as you’ll need it to login to the bot if you logout. That’s it. Your Bot is now setup and ready to be used. When we installed mIRC, we told it to create shortcuts. Now, we can rename them. This tutorial was done with Windows XP. If you have a different version of Windows or a different theme, you may not have the “All Programs” option. Instead, look for “Programs”. First, we’ll rename the mIRC group. Click Start, All Programs, and find mIRC. Right click on mIRC and select “Rename”. Now, enter the new name for the group. I used “YB Bot”. Click OK. You may see this warning pop up. If so, just click “Yes”. Now, we’ll rename the mIRC shortcut. Click Start, All Programs, YB Bot (or whatever you renamed it to), right click on mIRC, then click “Rename”. Enter the new name. Again, I used “YB Bot”. Then click “OK”. You may see this warning pop up. If so, just click “Yes”. Now we’re all set. When you click on Start and go to All Programs, you’ll see you’re new renamed shortcut to run the bot.
