Hey,
I made a switch to linux over 1 and a half years ago. It was a weird first step. However, you need to take the leap. Its more or less the leap of faith. There is a very low chance that anything will go wrong. There is always support if anything goes wrong.

To get you more or less started, try a LiveCD. This will allow you to explore linux without any change. It will load itself into the RAM at boot.

There is also an alternative called WUBI, it will install itself as a normal windows application. It should partition your hdd and load linux into it. It can be uninstalled like any Windows application too.

The WINE software is as easy as a command. The use of:

Code:
wine executable.exe
or editing wine.cfg.

If you want, just burn the ISO to your disk, then boot it up, select first option, which should be "Boot From Disk", then when you reboot you will be back on windows! or mac!

or you can do the same thing with a USB flash drive.

I'm going to be loading it up when I get home, so I can test it's functionality.

A Live CD is a good solution.

Linux has almost all apps you need preinstalled and the support if you miss something is great. However, there are still some lacks, like that you will not be able to use hacks for many games on linux.

Give it a try and let us know how it works .
