Shades of Mort'ton

Have a look at our store

Difficulty level: Easy

Start location: Make your way to the City of Mort'ton, in the southern part of Mort Myre Swamp.

Required:
Levels: Level 15 Herblore, 20 Crafting and ability to kill five level 40 monsters.

Items: Axe (hatchet), tinderbox, 2 logs (or 1 log and ashes), a few tarromin/water mixes useful (use tarromin with vial of water), and around 5.000 gp. (An extra 13k will allow you to buy a flamtear hammer and speed the quest up a good bit).

Quests: Priest in Peril.

Monsters: Loar shade (level 40) (must kill 5)

NPC: Razmire Keelgan, Ulsquire Shauncy

When you've found the town Mort'ton in the southern part of Mort Myre Swamp, locate the house with a broken table and a shelf in it (south-west in the town). Here search the table and keep the herbs you find. Also search the shelf, and read the diary of Herbi Flax found there. You should now have started the quest. Mix a tarromin with some ashes (burn a log) to get Serum 207. Use this on the Shop Keeper (Razmire), and he will tell you to go to the temple north of there and slay 5 shades. The temple is to the north-east, but you can kill 5 loar shades anywhere around town. Pick up their remains and return to Razmire.

Now talk with Ulsquire Shauncy in the most eastern house and show him the remains as well. After showing him the remains, talk to him. He will tell you about fixing the temple. Go to Razmire again and buy 2 vials of olive oil and a regular (cheap) hammer (or a Flamtaer Hammer for 13k if you want to make it faster) from the general store, and some building supplies from the building store (Razmire runs both). Supplies should include some timber beams, some limestone bricks, and some swamp paste.

Now go to the temple to the northeast and start rebuilding/reinforcing the temple. Be aware that a team of people is necessary for this activity - some to build, and some to fight off the attacking shades. (A busy server is the best place to do this.) As you build or fight off shades, you accrue Sanctity (it's shown on your screen). When the temple is 100% built (this is also displayed on your screen), anyone can use a tinderbox in the center to light the sacred flame. When your sanctity is at 10%, use your olive oil on the sacred flame, and you should have sacred oil. Use this on a log, and you'll have a pyre log. Now get a loar remains, and find a Funeral Pyre (around the edges of town). Place the pyre logs on it, then the loar remains, and then use your tinderbox to light it up. A key (or some other reward, such as some gp) should appear on the stone stand near the funeral pyre - pick it up and keep it.

Go back to Ulsquire and he will reward you.

Reward:

2,000 herblore exp (extra herblore exp if you use the diary on the Apothecary in Varrock)
2,000 crafting exp
Quest points gained on completion: 3

Tips, tricks & notes:

If you can't find enough people to rebuild the temple, go to a busy world and hang around a while - usually people will show up eventually.

If you want to build the temple easier, you can buy a Flamtaer Hammer from the general store of Mort'ton for a price of 13k. It makes the temple repairing much easier.

The key you may receive is for the doors to the north-west. Here you'll find a cave with some different shades. There are also more doors and chests inside - to open these you need to get different keys. This is the same procedure as with the first key. Kill the different shades (the higher level shades need higher level logs, such as yew or magic, to burn), and you will eventually get some keys.

Use a serum 207 on the sacred flame with a sanctity of 20% or more to make a serum 208 which will permanently cure 'Afflicted' NPC's in Mort'ton

You may still use serum 208 on 'Afflicted Citizens' after the quest. They will reward you with herbs, cash or some other items.
