Rep Power: 3 | | How to get 2 dogs to agree with eachother? Hey guys!
So,as most of you already know,I've got two dogs.
First one is a German Sheppherd female, and she is 11 years old,she only wants to rest and sleep, and do nothing practically.
The second one I got 4 months ago,is a Stafford male that has 5 months now.
Short Version : He annoys her too much, jumps around her and bites her, and she can't take it anymore, she might bite him bad.And I don't want to keep either closed.Help?
He is always running around, jumping and chewing things, and just wants to play. Now,the them two are always together in my garden(not closed),and they have like 400 yards garden for them,to run and play and do whatever they want to.I spend like 2 hours a day atleast with Lucky,my stafford. We go for a walk,I take him to the park,he plays with the neighbour dog there, then we come back home after an hour or so when he gets tired, then I play abit with him in the backyard,we play fetch and things,he rolls in the sand(yea,I have like 10 square yards of sand in my backyard),gets really tired and I think he's gonna go sleep now,or just rest. But,the second I leave him,he gets bored and wants to play with my other dog,11 years old German Sheppherd, and she wants to do everything else but play. She just wants her peace. Now,he does not realise that,he just jumps around her, jumps on top of her, bites her abit, and she just barks. Now,I've had that dog for like 2 years, when we bought the new house, the people that lived there left the dog to us.So,her teeth aren't sharp at all, they are healthy and strong but not sharp.Sharp like mine lol.
Now,she just barks and barks on him when he gets too annoying, but he doesnt know what that means. So,he sometimes bites him a little bit,so he just gets off her and stops annoying her,but he doesn't stop,he just wants to play some more. Then, she bites him abit again, nothing serious, just like abit so he cools down, and so on and so on.Now,im scared she won't be able to take anymore of it,and I do not want to keep either of them closed. So,if anybody has any suggestions what should I do,please help me.
Thanks. | | D3scene |

Rep Power: 8 | | Hmm, I believe this happens a lot of other families as well.
I've never really had a pet before so I might not know, though I have to suggestions that might possibly work.
1. I think you should get something for the little pup to play with. A ball, or something to chew on (chew-toy).
2. Tell Lucky (teach him) that he is not allowed to annoy the German Sheppard. Hit him(not hard, just to let him know that he ain't allowed to do that).
Get him trained =) Hope everything will be fine. I can do more research about dogs on the net if you like, or perhaps here on D3, there are some other people who have dogs, can help too. | | The Following User Says Thank You to dog_keeper For This Useful Post:

Rep Power: 3 | | | Somehow show Lucky that the german sheppard is alpha in the house.
My dogs did the exact same thing.
The one who was bothering the other ended up with a gash in her neck. Just had to take her to the vet to stitch her up. | | The Following User Says Thank You to lord-zach For This Useful Post:

Rep Power: 3 | | | How exactly would I show him that?Mia(the german sheppherd, also we didn't name her, dont lol),the german sheppherd doesn't act like an alpha or anything, she's just calm and easygoing, really nice. |

Rep Power: 2 | | Well as I see here there are 2 solutions for you. Either build a dogy house in front of your house or somewhere where the little fellow cant get to and put the german shepard there.
She will be fine if shes that old as you say all she wants is piece and a little bit of your company. The other way is to keep the little guy occupied.
Now he will chase whatever moves so its a nice trick to hang a ball over some branch and he will get interested in it. This can last up to 3 or more days.
Or you can get a new puppy the same age as your Lucky so he has a playmate.
This is the best solution but that depends on you. I have 7 hunting dogs on my village and they all have their own space so they don't bother each other.
Hope I helped a bit, ohh and with toys use imagination like they do in the zoo its important that the toy moves bec it gets them more interested. | | The Following User Says Thank You to mr_ice For This Useful Post:

Anyways, dogs usually find their way around each other. The old dog will probably not hurt the pup, just show him that he can't do that, and that the old dog is the boss around here.
If you dont trust that the dogs will figure it out themselves, you will have to correct the pup each and every time he botheres the old dog.
Its the only way Dogs learn by repetition. | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Serverman For This Useful Post:

Rep Power: 3 | | Another idea, a stupid idea, but it works.
Just let the german sheppard snap at lucky, maybe lucky will learn he shouldn't do that.
Tip: Whenever I have dog problems, I always try to think of how they got through situations without humans, back when they were wild and lived in packs (sounds silly, but I think it helps). |

Rep Power: 3 | | | Well, actually, she snapped a coupple of times at him,but it's like he doesn't understand. She then starts barking and gets serious, run around him fast,so he thinks she wants to play some more. When in fact she did bite him abit,he squeeked for 2 secs, rested for 3 seconds and then got back onto her : / | | D3scene |
