    How To Make A Wasp Trap

    1. Take a plastic bottle and cut the neck off. (The neck is the cone part of the bottle including the cap.)

    2. Flip the neck upside-down, removing the cap first, and place the neck into the bottle.

    3. Tape and/or staple the top together with the bottom of the bottle. Keep in mind that you will need to take them apart often to switch out the bait and remove dead wasps.

    4. Bait your trap. It should not reach the opening of the bottle (The wasps should have to completely enter the trap in order to access the bait). You can also do this before you attach the two pieces together. Some bait ideas:

      * Meat - This is the best choice in the spring and late winter because wasps are making nests and laying eggs, so they're searching for high protein food; you may even catch a queen this way, in which case the wasps will relocate their nest.

      * Dishwashing liquid and water

      * Mashed grapes

      * Sugar and lemon juice

      * Sugar and water

      * Sugar and vinegar

    5. Tape some string to the bottle, (or make holes and put the string through) and hang it up in an area with many wasps.
    6. Empty the trap regularly. Be sure the wasps are dead before removing them. Not only do you want to prevent an angry sting, but living wasps that escape may return aggressively with their friends. Pour hot, soapy water into the funnel (the upside-down neck of the bottle) to make sure, or put a plastic bag over the trap and put it in the freezer for a few days. Bury the dead wasps, or flush them down the toilet, as their bodies might release a chemical that alerts the rest of the colony of their fate.

    Re:How To Make A Wasp Trap

    Look at hardware stores and you may find an inexpensive gizmo that you put in the top of a bottle.

    How to make one: Make a cone from screen wire. The wide end of the cone should fit snuggly in the mouth of a jar; it is okay if it sticks out. The narrow end should have a small opening, maybe 1/2" wide or smaller, but big enough for the insect to get through. Put something attractive to wasps or yellow jackets in the jar (honey, fruit, etc.) and set it where the critters are.

    =========

    ou can make a wasp trap by filling a jar a third full with jam, water and a little washing up liquid. Cover the lid with paper which has holes in it big enough for wasps to get through.

    ========

    Take a pop bottle standing upright and make several small crossed slits around the side of the bottle about midway in the form of an X. My slits were only about a half inch long. Then push those triangular cuts inward just enough to create a small opening where the bees, yellowjackets can enter the bottle but the part you have pushed inward will make it difficult for them to be able to exit.

    ==========

    Using a pop bottle cut it in two about 1/3 of the way down from the neck. Remove the cap and Put the top part down into the bottom like a funnel. Pour sugar water down into the bottle through the funnel. I put 2 holes along the cut edges at the top where the two sections fit together to put a piece of wire through to hang it up but you could just set it on a post or out of the way place as well.
