Defense of the Ancients (Dota) is a custom map for Warcraft 3.The Dota maps contain 2 forces with 5 players each fighting each other. The players control an hero which they can level up or upgrade with items. A standard game usually lasts 30-60 minutes depending on the skill of the players. The map itself is around 3 megabytes big which makes it extremely slow to share it via the wc3 client and results in kicking of downloaders. You will need an external source to download the map. Dota is considered the most popular custom map for Warcraft 3 even awarded by Blizzard Entertainment.

To install you will need a valid copy of Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos and The frozen Throne, the latest Warcraft 3 patch.

Dota install instructions

1. Download the map, depending on the version you would like to play.
2. Open your file manager (on windows: explorer: Windows button + e)
3. Browse to the location where you downloaded the map to
4. Right click the map, "copy"
5. Navigate to your warcraft 3 folder
6. Open the folder "Maps"
7. Open "FrozenThrone"
8. Open "Downloads", if you do not have that folder create it (right click, new folder).
9. Right click somewhere in that folder and click "paste".
10. Start Warcraft 3 and play.

On Linux/Mac you have to copy the maps into your maps folder as well.
