Tehctrl's small dota guide

Defence Of The Ancients

Plot: 5 people on each team there is 3 lanes. Units spawn in your base and run down those lanes like wise with your enemy. You go into lanes to get experience, Dont worry there is towers to help you along the way there is also "neutral creeps" around the map and they appear as green dots on your mini map. When you sucessfully kill a creep more gold appears in your bank and you get 3 gold every 1 second(havent played in a while). With gold you can buy items to make your hero stronger. The max level is 25. Your hero has 4 skills (3 normal and a ultimate). What is a ultimate you ask? It is the strongest skill in your hero and you can only use it once your level 6 or up. It does more damage, cost's more mana but it is so much more effective.

Objective: Kill The frozen throne(sentinal) or the world tree(scourge).

So you have the basics down eh? It's time to move on to last hitting and denying. What is last hitting you say? It is when the enemys creep is low hp you attack it once and get gold instead of wasting time attacking it and getting a 50% chance on killing it. Denying is the same except with your creep. If you kill your creep(deny it) Your enemy wont get gold or experience.

Three types of hero's there strengths and weakness's

Strength - Strength heros are practically known as "tanks" this is because of the HUGE amount of hp they can get because strength is there main attribute. They also get damage from strength items along with HP. Strength heros start of weak early game but are the strongest late game. Early game you have to watch out for the intelliegence heros and some agility. My suggestion is to keep farming your lane back it up when more than one enemy is missing, wait for 30 seconds or so and keep farming.

Agility - Agility heros i classify as "ninjas" this is because they get ALOT of attack speed from agility items. They also get damage and armour too. Most agility heros are for mid to late game. Although there are some very strong ones early - late game for example POTM. With agility heros you should start ganking at around lvl 6 - 10. While your "tank" is farming. (remember to buy wards for you team so your tank doesnt get ganked!!! (this is a must!). If your tank dies alot then its going to be hard for him to become strong late game.

Intelligence - Ah.. finally the intelligence. These heros are "magicians" they do ALOT of DPS early game. There weakness is agility heros and are practically useless without mana. *note you are very weak late game unless you can farm up some items like sheep stick.

Finally we come to the carry heros(There are 5 main carry's)

We have: POTM - Priestess of the moon (agi)
SF - Shadow fiend (agi)
Silencer (int)
Viper (agi)
And last but not least Luna (agi)

I suggest in a clan war you have ATLEAST i repeat ATLEAST 1. These heros are not only REALLY strong but the BEST for ganks. They get focused while your tank can farm. Also in one lane i would suggest putting 2 stunning heros (or disablers). One of my favourite is tiny, POTM(priestess of the moon) or CK(chaos knight). A really good tank is "Tree" aka rooftrellen.

Heros i wouldnt suggest in clan wars.

Pudge - Practically useless.
Meepo - Gets owned in ganks
NEVER EVER GET STEALTH ASSASIN!!!!!!!!

FAQ: I've played DotA but people are telling me i backdoor and i dont know what it is.

Okay, Back dooring to me is when you attack there base items ie. tower inside base. and your creeps are not there(units that come down the lane). But some people clasify back dooring as attacking any tower without your creeps being there so you have to be careful.

FAQ: What is that big purple golem near the scourge's secret shop?

His name is roshan, A big rock golem with the ability to stun. I would'nt attempt to take him alone unless you are experienced. Usually teams kill him when they are around level 15 on average.

FAQ: What are the runes and what do they do?

Runes are powerups pretty much. They can save you in lots of ways, shapes and forms. They make you stronger in a way.

List of runes:

Mirror image (The yellow one): This rune makes a replication of your hero(it takes 100% more damage and deals 25% damage.

Double damage (The blue one): This rune makes you do twice the amount of damage for a minute.

Haste (the red one): This rune makes you run at incredible speed's(Maxes your MS out for 30 seconds)

Regeneration (the green one): This rune regenerates your HP/MP to full at extreme rates it lasts for 30 seconds.

FAQ: How often do runes spawn and where?

Runes spawn every two minutes. Locations: Up the river opposite the sentinel secret shop and down the river opposite the scourge secret shop.

Word list for people who dont know:

HP - Health points
MP - Mana points
MS - Movement speed
FAQ - Frequently asked question
POTM - Priestess of the moon
SF - Shadow fiend
CK - Chaos knight
STR - Strength
AGI - Agility
INT - Intelligence
DPS - Damage per second
APM - Actions per minute
