Warcraft III World Editor - Basics

Table of contents.
-Introduction
-Making a new map
-Object Editor
-Trigger Editor
-Terrain
-Doodads
-Regions
-Scenario
-Conclusion

Introduction.

Hello. This is a tutorial on how to get started map mapking with the World Editor.

Making a new map.

Open the World Edtior and select "File". Then select "New map".
Choose how big you want your map to be, and what tileset you want to use.

Allright. Now that the map is open, lets go to the next step.

The Object Editor.

The Object Editor is opened by clicking this icon (Or hit F6):

Inside the object editor, you can change everything related to Units, Items, Destructibles, Doodas, Ablilities, Buffs/Effects and Upgrades. I suggest that you play around with it abit, and see what it can do.
Examples of what you can change in here could be:
The size of units.
The stats of units.
The sound set of units.
And many, many more.
This is the object editor:

The Trigger Editor.

Click on this icon, to open the trigger editor. (Or hit F4)

The trigger editor is where you make all your triggers.
I'm gonna show you how to make some basic triggers.

First, click "New trigger". (Or hit CTRL + T)
Name it what you want.
Second, choose an event which will activate the trigger.
Do this be clicking "New event". (Or hit CTRL + E)
Make some Conditions if you want to. This is not neccesary.
Third, click "New Action" (Or hit CTRL + R)
Choose what you want to happen, when the event happens.

An example:
Click new event, and navigate to "Unit - Player-Owned Unit Event".
"A unit owned by Player 1 (Red) Dies"

Now, we have to choose what we want to happend, when a unit owned by player 1 (Red) dies.
Select new action, and navigate to "Revive (Instantly)".
Everything which is underlined, is configureable.
Select where you want the dying unit to revive, by either making a new region (take a look at the region part of my guide) and select it, or select "Playable map area".

This is only an example of a trigger, you can do allmost everything with the trigger editor. I suggest you play around with it on your own.

Terrain.

In the terrain palette, you can change everything related to the terrain on your map.
You can make cliffs and change the ground.
I highly recommend that you take a look at this on your own, and play around with it. This way, you'll learn more.

Doodads.

In the doodad palette you can make everything from trees to barricades, from bridges to pathing blockers, from flowers to gates, and alot more. You should go through this on your own, and test what you can do with it.
There is so many things you can place.

Regions.

Regions. You can use regions to spawn creeps, to revive heroes, to move units and alot more.
To create a region, open the region palette and click on "Add Region". Make it somewhere on your map. You can adjust the size by clicking on the cornor of the region and move it with your mouse.
When you have made a region, rename it so you can acces it easier. Regions can be used in triggers (Look at the trigger part of my guide)

Scenario.

At the top of the main window, click on Scenario --> Map Description. This window will pop up:

You can change anything related to the Description, Options, Size and Camara Bounds, Loading Screen and Prefs.
All the map properties basicly.
If you want to change your loading screen do as following:

Scenario --> Map loading screen.
And to use your own custom loading screen:

<-- Click on this icon. The Import manager will open. Click file --> Import file, and select the picture of w/e you want to use.
Go back to the Map loading screen under Scenario, and select "Use imported file".

If you want to learn how to MAKE a custom loading screen, take a look at this:

http://world-editor-tutorials.thehel...loadscreen.php

Now, click on Scenario again. Instead of clicking on Map Description, click on Player Properties. This window will pop up:

In here, you can change everything related to Players, Ally Priorities, Forces, Techtree, Abilities and Upgrades.
You can select which player should be allied with who, etc.
Again, play around with it on your own =)

Conclusion

My basic Warcraft III World Editor guide has come to an end.
Feel free to leave comments, suggestions, and other stuff related to my guide. I've written it all by myself.
Critism is welcome, aslong as it is constructive.
Also, you should take a look at this great FAQ:
