Many people are asking/looking for a WoW Cataclysm alpha test.
The expansion that should be out in a year was announced less then a month so there is no alpha test servers.
For all of you who have seen sites/videos or got emails "from blizzard" don't fall for it. All of that is just meant to scam you.
The videos are just edited private servers. The sites and emails are fake.
Blizzard will ONLY send emails to you IF you requested.
All announcements are in the WoW forum, on the login screen, in-game, and in the WoW launcher.

The emails some of you may have received may look real but they are fake.

Getting started:

Your World of Warcraft game client must be up to date with the latest patches in order to install the Alpha test client.

Go to World of Warcraft: Cataclysm and follow the detailed, step-by-step instructions to begin playing the World of Warcraft - Cataclysm Alpha.

Please be prepared to enter your current retail World of Warcraft account name and password, and the appropriate Alpha Code below to authenticate your eligibility to connect to the Cataclysm test realms. To participate in the Alpha testing, you must have a valid retail World of Warcraft account active and in good standing as of September 8th, 2009.

Below is the Cataclysm Alpha Registration Code that will allow you to upgrade a World of Warcraft account to be eligible for the Cataclysm Alpha testing. Each Alpha Code can be used only once to upgrade an active retail World of Warcraft account.

Please retain this email for your records. If you experience any issues setting up the Alpha account or accessing the test realms, please email our Billing Support team at support@blizzard.com.

Troubleshooting:

If you experience any difficulties installing the Alpha game client, or have problems connecting to the test realms, please contact Technical Support either by opening a ticket ingame or by email at catasupport@blizzard.com. Please remember that this software is still undergoing development, so any in-game issues should be reported using the /bug feature.

The link appears to be real even in the down-left corner of your browser but redirects you to a fake site.

Here is the waring message from blizzard that appears when you login:

These messages are not official Blizzard correspondence and are being sent in effort to gain unauthorized access to your account. Even when you click the link you may get a spyware or virus.

well, of course. That is not very hard to work out if you have common sense. lizzard wont have released cataclysm files yet, and if they did i'm pretty sure it would be all over the net. Not just some random e-mail telling you they want you in the alpha. They dont do player alpha testing, and definately not to people who dont hold a legit wow account. How are these people supposed to know wheter you have a wow account or not? they dont so anyone could recieve one.

but yes, blizzard will not at anytime as your your acc info and pass, EVER!! so if there asking for your pass....ITS NOT BLIZZARD!!
