    Word of warning:

Patch 2.4 has a very large chance of f***ing with your WoW installation. It has happened to me and many other players. On updating the content as per normal, people are getting full-on crash messages during server connection.

Allegedly, this is due to the changes that 2.4 makes to the patch.mpq file in your Data directory, apparently corrupting sections, landscape/environment/texture files being a notable problem, and preventing safe loading of the game.

    If you're getting Error #131, you're screwed.

If you're in this boat, the following steps should work, in order of 'resort':
    - Run the Blizzard Repair tool in your WoW directory
    - Delete patch.mpq in your Data directory. This will revert WoW to 2.0.0 status, equivalent to a fresh install of Burning Crusade. From here, hook up to a live server, or a patch mirror location, and wait a few hours while 1.1 gigabytes of Warcraft streams down your internet cables.
The above steps worked for me and most others it seems. If that fails, then a full system wipe of WoW and step-by-step installation should do the trick.

    Regards,
    Xerxes
