This is my addition for the contest.
Ok, this is going to be my guide on how to get UBER cash at low levels as alliance. This guide will probably work best on young servers, around a month old, when people start powerleveling their professions. The keys to getting a good cash flow at the low levels is a combination of the right professions, the knowledge of where to get materials, and how to use the Auction house and trade channel to your advantage.
Chapter 1- Professions-
Skinning- As a lowbie alliance, I always start out human, just because it saves time. I immediately pick up Skinning from Helene Peltskinner (Helene Peltskinner - NPCs - World of Warcraft) and grab a skinning knife from the trade goods vendor in Goldshire. Skinning is a great profession because you have no money invested in it other than the cost of the skinning knife and the cost of the larger bags you will probably need. Skinning also has the benefit of making you that little extra cash off of each beast mob you kill, and at low levels, running around Elwynn Forest will aggro a lot of mobs. Not much more needs to be said about skinning until the Auction house chapter.
Mining- the second profession I take up is mining, because, like skinning, it is a low input, high output profession, especially on new servers. For mining, copper is a godsend at the low levels, because it is needed by three crafting professions, blacksmithing, engineering, and jewelcrafting. This makes it a constant influx of money, allowing you to either sell your goods in the /2 or at the Auction house for a good bit of money. For mining copper, I usually follow the attached path- (Elwynn_Forest_Map.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting) which can net me upwards of 40 ore and 20 rough stone in one trip, depending on how the nodes pan out.
Chapter 2- Grinding-
Linen- well, as most of you know, linen cloth is used in more profession than you can shake a stick at, blacksmithing, engineering, tailoring, and first aid, all of which are useful to SOMEONE. I prefer to grind my linen over at the Defias by Mirror Lake. I don’t do this because it has the highest drop rate, or because they have a high respawn rate, but because of the 5 or 6 copper nodes that spawn in the area around and in the lake, the wolves nearby for skinning, and the rare spawn (Morgaine the Sly - NPCs - World of Warcraft) in the house who drops a very desirable lowbie dagger (Jeweled Dagger - Items - World of Warcraft). I tend to kill all the Defias by Morgaine’s house, run around killing the casters at the edge of the lake, then finish off looking for copper nodes and killing and skinning the wolves nearby. Unfortunately, at low levels, there isn’t really another resource as plentiful and needed as linen, making it the most cost to time effective item.
Chapter 3- Selling your goods-
NPC Merchants- not your best way to go, they give about a half to three quarters what the item is worth, only go this route if you are low on cash for skills/equipment/repairs.
The Auction House- The AH is your best and worse friend, the positive of it is that you don’t need to be in game to sell your item. The negatives are that you have to pay to list your item, and people constantly undercut you. I usually tend to make an alt who I just sit on the AH putting up auctions for stuff I send him. I give him 1g, and then keep him at 1g, just sending all the rest of the money back to my main. To help you set prices well, I suggest getting the auctioneer mod kit (Auctioneer addon for World of Warcraft), if you are selling on the AH it is your best friend. If you decide to sell on the AH, always put in a buyout price, because high levels wanting to powerlevel an alt’s skills don’t tend to think about the price, just that they want it now.
/2- Ah, here we go, the trade channel. You can access the trade channel from any major city, (Ironforge, Stormwind, Darnassus, or Sattrath). You can usually draw attention to your auctions using phrases like “100 copper ore up on AH for CHEEP CHEEP prices” and stuff like that, but that tends to lead to people undercutting you. What I do when I want to sell stuff is, “miner selling lots of copper ore and bars, pst with offers” and then take orders from people.
Chapter 4- Conclusion
This guide should help you get through those hard spots where you’re short on cash, but you really need that new spell or piece of armor. It can also help you when you are broke at forty when you want to buy your first mount, seeing as people will still have the same needs as they did when you were originally using this at level 10-15 or so.
Chapter 5- Update #1-
I will be updating this within the next few days/weeks, stay tuned for updates
