WoW Wotlk private servers (Client 8391 Mangos)

Wow, very quick reply, thank you. I was expecting to have to wait till morning.

I used to have MySQL and it was an actual program that ran, but when I downloaded it from the 5.0 link, it's a DOS looking screen that I have to type commands in, did I download the wrong link? I tried 2/3 of them and they were the same. I'm running Windows XP.

Also, do I need Burning Crusade installed or does this run off the base game?

Once these questions are answered, I do believe that I'm in private server heaven.

Sorry about the newbie questions, I'm new to this. I tried making one about a year ago, but it wasn't quite as condensed as this one and it failed hard. So I'm hoping to get this one to work just right.

My bedst advice would be to ditch you 8392 client and get the 8391, there are several reason's, but the main is that 8392 dosn't have the complete mpq files (think they are streamed from Blizzard when playing the game, which you might see the problem with, since they this way they could log your IP, and see that you don't have a official wotlk account) <-- this is just my asumption but I hear a lot of people talking about getting a Ban on Official account's when they neven even bottet or cheated, but had been playing on private servers with the 8337 or 8392 client (I have no evidence, but I personally would not take the chance).

I don't know exactly where or what you downloaded, but I personally use this: MySQL :: MySQL 5.0 Downloads
And yeah the WOTLK Client check to see if you have a TBC Client installed, but it dosn't overwrite it, so you end up with 2 seperate WoW's (1 TBC & 1 WOTLK).

Edit: Damn once again .... forgot that I had just posted ... well sorry for the double posting. (A feature to delete your own post would really have been great)

yes MySQL is like that... I believe what you are looking for is a frontend for it. Get Navicat to go along with it.

Yeah that's where I went. I went there, clicked windows, and it gave me this:

The ones circled in red are the ones I downloaded. When I open them and put in my password it looks like this:

If I go into program files and into the folder, no .exe is available. Bunch of random folders. It looks like maybe it's a patch for the actual program maybe. I have to go in through the start menu to even attempt to get it going.

I don't know if it's supposed to look like this, but when I used to have it it sure didn't.

Hi, thanks for your work, but I'm having a little problem.

Everytime I try to edit the realmlist.wtf , I get an error.

It says "Cannot create the C:\program files\wotlk\etc etc.realmlist.wtf file. Make sure that the path and file name are correct."

Does this no matter what I try. I can't edit it at all. Thanks for any help.

Or you could get SQLyog which is the one I use, You'll find it here: SQLyog

You can just open Notepad, then look up the config.wft file via notepad, then edit it, then save it.

Also I'm currently working on making a SQL-Update file to update any 2.4.2 Database to WOTLK (This will help people keeping their custom stuff), I'll post it when I'm done (this will be with all the stuff from version 1.8 + a few updates of my own) but might take me a little time since i have a 9 months old daughter which also require some of my time.

Are you running vista? If so, open up notepad as an administrator first, then browse to the file and open it. Try editting and saving it then. If that still doesn't work, try using another editor such as Notepad++.

I'm at this part, but no realmlist.wtf file exists.

10. Point your WotLK to your Mangos server...
a. Go to your WotLK folder and open realmlist.wtf in notepad.
b. Add # at the start of both lines to comment each line out.
c. Add a new line with the exact text set realmlist 127.0.0.1

Where did I go wrong? Sigh. Soooo close.

Something always goes wrong right at the end.
