I do not have any server (other than a webserver), and i do not play wow. I just know my way around private servers as i started one some years ago.
There is not much that changes, if you first understand the principals of this, you know it untill you forget. Although whenever i log in to help someone i always get lost in the new continents etc... Thank god for .tele

Ok, I got the server running and I can play alone, but, when I set it up using the dns I can't get it to connect on the server or my laptop on the same network. Also I'm using a linksys wrt54g router. I saw that ports may need to forwarded for all computers but the router only allows for 10 ranges and forwarding ports for the server takes up 9. Please help. I've been at this for 14 hours straight now.

First of all, 9 hours aint enough for the DNS to update, wait at least 24 hours.
Second: The ports need to be forwarded only to the hosting computer
Third: If you are trying to connect from the LAN, why are you even bothering to make it public?

I want to make it public so some of my friends can join me. But I also need to conect with computers on the same network because me and my wife want to play together. I think to dns is updated because if I enter dnsname/stats/register.php I get the account creation page.

Have you forwarded the ports and set up the configs properly?

I forwarded all the ports listed and set the configs up the way they were described.

If nothing else I would like to have LAN play. If I load up WoW on the server computer I can log in, connect to the realm, and play. If load up WoW on the laptop I can login and see the realm list but when I try to connect it just brings me back to the realms list.

Check your logonserver config.
And also the realms config.

What should I be looking for in them. Also is there away to not use to dns. Also I should state that when trying to do the LAN only, I have the servers realm config set to 127.0.0.1 , the server wow client realmlist set to the same and the laptop realmslist the the servers ip 192.168.2.100
